PORCELAIN VENEERS

Porcelain Veneers (Leaf Porcelain): Maximum Aesthetics with Minimal Cutting

Porcelain veneers are extremely thin porcelain sheets, 0.3–0.7 mm thick, that are bonded to the front surface of the teeth. With their minimally invasive approach, they protect gum health while offering excellent color, shape, and contour results. At Prodenta Dental Clinic in Ataşehir, porcelain veneers are preferred in the majority of smile design cases.

What is the difference between porcelain veneers and classic porcelain crowns?

  • In classic porcelain crown (full veneer) application, the entire surface of the tooth is prepared. In porcelain veneers, however, only a thin layer of the front surface of the tooth is removed; in some cases, veneers can be applied without any preparation at all. This difference ensures maximum preservation of natural tooth tissue.

Porcelain veneers

Who are porcelain veneers suitable for?

  • Dissatisfaction with tooth color (especially resistant discolorations such as tetracycline staining)

  • Tooth shape and size abnormalities

  • Diastema (spaced teeth)

  • Broken or worn front teeth

  • Large and aesthetically unpleasing frontal fillers

  • Mild crowding or misalignment

Situations Where Porcelain Veneers Cannot Be Applied

  • In advanced cases of bruxism (teeth grinding), the risk of porcelain veneers breaking increases.

  • No procedure can be performed without ensuring gum health; periodontal treatment is required first.

  • If there is excessive loss of tooth structure, zirconium crowns may be a more suitable option.

Porcelain Veneer Application Process

In patients without gum or root canal problems, the entire process can be completed in approximately 5–7 days: minimal preparation and digital or conventional impression taking in the first session, followed by fixing the veneers with porcelain adhesive a few days later. During this process, temporary veneers can be placed so the patient can see and approve the design beforehand (smile simulation).

Porcelain Veneer Care

  • The same care as with natural teeth is sufficient: brushing for 2 minutes morning and evening.

  • Dental floss should be used once a day.

  • Excessive mechanical stress, such as from eating nuts or chewing ice, should be avoided.

  • Since porcelain surfaces are stain-resistant, no discoloration occurs when tea or coffee is consumed in moderation.

How long do porcelain veneers last?

  • Thanks to advancements in bonding materials and technology, porcelain veneers can last 15-20 years with proper care. If a superficial detachment occurs, repair is possible with composite fillings in the mouth without removal.
