IMPLANT TREATMENT

Tooth loss, a part of facial aesthetics, causes psychological and social problems, as well as nutritional and digestive issues and speech disorders. Until the 1980s, gaps caused by tooth loss were filled with bridge prostheses. The application of bridge prostheses required the cutting of at least two teeth adjacent to the missing tooth. Today, however, artificial tooth roots (implants) made of titanium are placed inside the jawbone without the need to cut healthy teeth. Porcelain superstructures that mimic the function and aesthetics of a tooth are then applied to the implant (titanium root).
ADVANTAGES OF IMPLANT TREATMENTS:
The advantages of porcelain crowns include: preserving adjacent teeth without cutting them; preventing bone loss in the jawbone in the tooth gap; easier oral hygiene compared to bridge prostheses; the possibility of making porcelain teeth individually as if they were natural teeth; and especially increasing the retention of full dentures in the lower jaw.
CRITERIA DETERMINING THE DECISION TO GET AN IMPLANT:
The patient's health condition
Patient's age
Width of the tooth gap
Volumetric adequacy of the bone
Bone density
Oral hygiene
Tobacco use

PREPARATION AND APPLICATION STEPS OF THE IMPLANT - PATIENT'S MEDICAL HISTORY (SYSTEMIC CONDITION):
Patients who will undergo implant placement are asked about any major organ diseases. If they have had any illnesses, their current condition after treatment is ascertained. They are referred for treatment if their general health is not stable. Drug allergies are inquired about. If allergies exist, they are taken into consideration when choosing medications.
INTRAORAL RADIOLOGICAL EXAMINATION:
For patients who will undergo implant placement, the overall health of their teeth and gums, as well as the condition of the bone in the implant placement area, are evaluated. The bite of the teeth is examined in detail.
PREPARATION OF TEMPORARY PROSTHESES:
These are fixed or removable prostheses prepared to replace missing teeth in a patient until the day of implant placement.
IMPLANT APPLICATION:
The gums are numbed, and often the gum tissue is lifted to create a socket in the jawbone for the implant to be placed. If the gum tissue was lifted, it is closed with stitches.
ORAL HYGIENE AND CARE AFTER IMPLANT PLACEMENT:
The first week after implant placement is the most crucial period for healing. Oral hygiene is supported during this time with special mouthwashes prescribed by the dentist. The prescribed antibiotics should be taken regularly. Ice should be applied to the implant area externally at intervals for the first 24 hours. Extremely hot liquids and solid foods should be avoided.
APPLICATION OF IMPLANT-SUPPORTED PORCELAIN TEETH:
After an average waiting period of 2 months, the permanent porcelain teeth planned before the implant procedure are fabricated.
CAN IMPLANTS BE REJECTED BY THE BODY?
Implants are screws made of titanium, a tissue-friendly material with no side effects on the body.
WHAT IS THE LIFESPAN OF AN IMPLANT?
The lifespan of an implant is equivalent to that of a natural tooth, depending on accurate diagnosis, planning, flawless application, and successful oral hygiene.
CAN IMPLANTS BE USED IN INDIVIDUALS WITH GUM DISEASE?
The success rate of implants placed after gum treatment is the same as in those without gum disease.
IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT FOR IMPLANT TREATMENT?
There is no age limit for systemically healthy individuals. Implants can be applied to people whose skeletal development is complete.
